Easter Cookie Decorating (and posing for silly pictures)

Слава Ісусу Христу! Glory be to Jesus Christ!

Well, folks, I’ve only been doing this for a few weeks and already I’ve got events to organize and lead, especially since we don’t want to waste this Lenten season. What’s the first thing we decided to do? The annual cookie decorating event, of course! Usually this event is geared towards the junior youth (aged 7-13) but since we’re doing some restructuring within youth ministry, I figured I’d open up this event to children and teens alike – the more the merrier, right?

But first, the supplies. We had use of the church to be sure, but we’d need cookies and icing.

Did you know that parents are the best? If you ask them to help you out with something, more often than not they’re primed and ready to help in any way they can. That’s exactly what happened in this case. Two moms stepped forward to bake the cookies and my own mother agreed to make the icing. What a nice feeling it is to be supported!

Finally the day arrived. In the end we had a small group doing the cookie decorating, but since we were all girls I decided I’d put on some music and we would have a girls’ night while decorating. It actually turned out really well; I got a chance to learn more about the girls, they got to learn a little about me (what my music choices of Disney, Broadway, and Ed Sheeran revealed about me, I’m not sure), and we got all the cookies decorated in no time at all!

Of course I completely forgot to get “action shots” of the girls while we decorated cookies, so we had to make due with an impromptu photo shoot in the kitchen. Check out some of these shots! I especially love the silly pictures.

Mmm, cookies!

Posing nicely with the cookies.

What happens when I say "silly picture!"

More silliness.

Peeping.

Jazz hands (because I'm in the picture)!

All in all a wonderful evening and I’m excited to spend more time with these ladies and the rest of the kids in the parish.

God bless,

Joyanne :D
